This was how Dhaka univarsity student leader, JCD president Azizul Bari Helal was produced before CMM court this saturday. Prior to that he was held in undisclosed location for 40 hours.
Until even last week we though GTMO bay is a far away place. Thats not true anymore. While we continue our civil constructive discussion about the long term future of this 11 feresta’s government, worst incidents of human rights violations are taking place in Bangladesh. Promiment leaders`are being produced to court blindfolded, teachers are picked up from their homes at midnight and detained indefinitely, nonbailable cases are being lodged against 90,000 citizens.
It is extremely important that we protest these gross human rights abuse. If we fail to protest now, very soon it will be little too late.

Dear Rumi,
I think my friend u have forgotten the history of Bangladesh. So let me refresh ur memory. There was a time when all politics was banned other than baksal. Only 4 pro state papers could publish; women were picked up from streets. In later regime the DU students were distributed arms to salughter opponents. The Ershad regime was brought down from power “illegally”. Next comes Khaleda’s farse 15th February election. Later the sitting prime minister Hasina’s outrageous public speach in Chtg that 10 bodies of opponent would fall to avenge the death of her 1 partyman who was killed. Next, Khaleda’s govt patronized grenade attack on Hasina with the objective of complete demolition of party stalwarts. Of course not to mention the Special Power Act which has been carried out by all governments, Yesuddin’s becoming all in all out of the way, the infamous unique completely improper cancellation of the last minute verdict of writ against Yesuddin’s presidency by Moudud.
I am sure u have completely forgotten all these.
Now, let me analyze the present DU situation. The students may have an excuse (I am not negating but the credibility of even the main incidence is also now questioned by some established papers) to beat up the police as they were beaten by the former. But what excuse will they give, when they destroyed not just public but compltely unrelated innocent people’s private property. r they not even worse than the police in this case.
Then came the shocking findings. What a great marriage of awami n bnp members who were crossing swords adamantly just during the peak time before the Jan 07 election! Helal has been found (with the call list of his cell) to contact khaleda right before the incident taking instructions and then making calls to the Awami Dr. Anwar, after which the DU teacher’s Association made student provoking statements so that the fire still remained in high spirits in spite of the govt completely meeting the students’ demand by making a formal apology and instantly removing the army camp from DU. The Association still didn’t stop, it even called for withdrawing the emergency law.
Actually, we have seen enough! It is of course not acceptable when paki’s rape us but it’s horrendous when these bastard politicians harm us more.
U people’s including politician’s apparent gimmics cannot fool us any more, we now know the all the stories n political games.
Let’s give this govt a chance. Everything has a natural process. If this govt does not take lessons from history and follow the so called “democracy” practiced by the earlier evil politician (thugs), the history will definitely repeat or at least for once we may have a chance.
August 27, 2007 at 4:40 pm
‘U people’s including politician’s apparent gimmics cannot fool us any more, we now know the all the stories n political games’
– Obviously not. The regime’s ‘arrest on corruption charges’ gimmick and stories in DGFI fed Amader Shomoy type papers can fool you much better.
August 27, 2007 at 8:17 pm
Skeptics,
If Amader Shomoy is a ‘DGFI fed’ paper, could it publish comments like the following???

Rupen,
Care to explain why the supposed election of Feb, 15th 2006 was attributted as Khaleda’s farce, please? Secondly scar/wound of phantom PAKI rape existed in BD as Steal Mill and Adamji until the real rapist appeared with more charm and charishma. And till today the victims of more
phantom rapes can be found in Patenga, Khalishpur and Chatak as GM Plant, Dry Dock, Dock Yard, News Print Mills and Fertilizer factory. Furthermore, BUET, BIT and CTG UNivv etc
happened to be the place of PAKI rapist’s doctrination centers where my and other’s father along with myself got brain washed. Shame on our
Panta brains who still don’t realize that there is no difference between the death of 6 million JEWS in WW11 and 1 million rapes of Bengalis in 71.Interestingly when the challenger/So-called revisiotionists of these concocted figures demonstrated the willingness to throw their heads
under the sword if more than 26000 deaths in 1971
could be accounted then the lien-liar like chanakya Kamal Hussein didn’t step up to prove the numbers. But frothing in virtual world
like DU and Media like Prothom Alo goes on uninterruptedly that resembles Goeble’s famous saying like tell a big lie and repeat it over and over then people will start believing it one day. Now the question is whether Goeble figured it out first or the dissiminators of Ramayan, Gita and Mahabharat did? After all those stayed as Puto-Pabitra Brahman’s trump cards for centuries. Now, how in the sane world someone can call the ousted of an illegal power grabber “Illegally”? And in what jurisdiction judge, jury and executionar don’t give defendents chance to “Have their says”? Finally who are those people who intercepts Helal’s calls? Care to know? Find out how many Dadas of India work in big telecom posts. And see if there is similarity, a pattern of work between Indians and Israelis in the following link,

August 27, 2007 at 10:27 pm
I guess the simpler explanation that the protests and the riots stem from underlying frustration with the economy and the suppression of rights under this military regime is too difficult for this government and their supporters to accept.
I find the similarities between the cheerleaders of repressive policies in Bangladesh and the right-wing rabid supporters of torture in America to be quite fascinating.

See two identical news in two different newspaper. Dari, comma, semicolon shob kichu porjonto ek. Now you can understand who is trying to establish what.

I saw the same news, line by line, word by word, written by staff reporters of dinkal, naya diganta etc. This is an implanted news. Now more will come in the form of confessions made by those`detained.
Didn’t we hear a lot of such confessions during the first months of this CTG? How many of them stand valid now?
These all are implanted from some source.
Now I hear SQ Chy is back to jail. A clear indication of blackmail the only news channel in BD.
August 28, 2007 at 12:43 am
Rumi,
How can you infer that SQ Chowdhury’s return to prison cell indicates the blackmailing of his news channel? Isn’t it possible that he has returned to prison cell as he is no longer required to stay in the hospital, as per the official version??
I don’t have an iota of doubt that people like you would have invented an underhand dealing if he was set free.
August 28, 2007 at 1:56 am
pls read some more papers. u will find similar and relevant stories with interesting findings evrey day onwards to reflect my views regarding the DU incident. There is also an investigation Committee headed by SC Judge to find out the details of the incident. Wait till then, if u disagree much.
The preliminary DU incident at the field may have really happened without any provocation. But the fact that the situation has been exploited by the political parties is a common story to all. my non-political university teachers feel ashamed at it. they were furious. they know these political teachers for long. They mentioned that it was the grave responsibility of the teachers to cool down the students instead, specially when the govt formally apologized and withdrew the camp. They also said that these teachers always followed hard party line even though an academician can’t do that, maximum believing in a party but not blind about it. I insist that this newsgroup talk to civil conscious groups and feel the tempo.
Now lemme make a threadbare and sequential analysis of all the comments so far made on my views.
My dear friends, 1st let us b honest with ourselves. did we ever have democracy from 72. As per law the constitution of Bangladesh is totally “illegal”. The constituion was approved by the MPS elected in the former East Pakistan Election not bd, which can’t b the case. Later, all the bangladeshi govts followed it but did not approve it. So it remains illegal.
Next, one of the most important clauses of the
constitution is that no law can be enacted that violates the main spirit of constitution, i.e., basic human rights, freedom of speech etc. Mujib stole that with Baksal n special power act, Zia with Indemnity Act.
The later govts all used these legally permitted abuses quite successfully.
So far we had maximum 10 honest MPS altogether in any parliament. By the way, legally they also don qualify as all of them also violated the Ec’s spending rule. But i’ll try to be blind about it for the development’s sake, otherwise i’ll not get any MP at all unless the EC changes the rule. However, EC had a good intention for that. It was made so that only popular personalities with honesty can make it to the parliament, where ppl should not be allowed to buy seats.
But what we c is a total chaos. Only the thugs spending millions of taka violating most of the election codes get elected thru intimidation, threat and vote rigging. A single person casting multiple votes is a matter of credit even in Dhaka city. U can imagine what happens outside dhaka. U may argue that both the major parties do that. But that is the problem. We have 2 chose between the bad, worse n worst. Good guys never dare to get into this falsehood or risky business. They may even be killed. Even honest n popular politicians like ahsanullah master or kibria get killed, forget about nonelected good ppl. Govt also let good ppl (even though elected) leave the ministry for the govt’s evil motives, like the case of BNP’s L.K. Siddiqui or Zahiruddin Khan. Even, there r also evil party marriages though Khaleda n Hasina crossing swords. Morshed khan bribes the Awami stalwarts so that the popular awami person who may get very well elected is not even nominated to contest Morshed.
In spite of massive corruptions openly committed by ministers and MPS not a single one was ever officially warned (forget about punishments or legal consequences) by our so called “democratic govts”. Never ever a single person could dare to sue a single minister or any party mastan. If anyone made even some open remarks frequently they were mercilessly beaten and/or later killed many a times. Go thru as many papers as u want to in whichever year.
Every single govt ordered the police to pick up opponents without incidence. When incidences took places people were even killed either by the police or pro-govt ppl. Khaleda, Mannan, Ivy Rahman, Kibria, Chtg police shooting what not, how many major incidents u want to b mentioned. Besides the election engineering of Khaleda’s 15th feb as well this jan election n hasina’s total transferring of officials for her reelection have been printed not only locally but even internationally, becoming a common story to all. r these not games?
So if all these practices r very democratic to u, fine, go ahead n live in a fool’s paradise.
Funny, in this IT world, dial list of cell phones are being doubted.
On the other hand, i donno what u mean by panta brains. did i not condemn the deshis’ atrocities more than the paki’s? n i thought it’s known to all that indian dadas n paki bhais were more interested in the Awami, BNP and Jamats. Or r u coming up with ur stories of them supporting this regime more!
Unfortunately, u all have completely misunderstood my analysis. I do not support any autocratic regime. Never did i support any democtractically autocrats. Forget about common ppl, even party bigwigs dont even dare to look at the eyes of hasina or khaleda n now the princes. I will explain with an example. A half lie is more dangerous than a full lie. becos the half lie has some true element. with that truth the false part will have a free ride. with full lie that can’t happen n be easily encountered.
Similarly, an autocrat can be removed easily. But a democratically autocrat rules behind the veil of so called democracy. So they can’t be removed easily. After a long time people can openly talk and discuss the corruptions. Evil people don’t dare to keep their heads high or show off their illegal fortunes or muscle power. I enjoy that. All evil doers know that corruption is not endless, atleast at some point of time it may get stopped n they may be held accountable. On the other hand, if this govt want to cling to power or manipulate governance for longer period of time with ulterior motives it will follow the natural process as we have seen locally n internationally. i support the style only for a short period of time. definitely i want the election to b held by 2008. n i don’t want these evil corrupted ppl even b allowed to contest. otherwise, all our hopes will evaporate.

Ahbab Aziz
It rather seems you dont have iota of knowledge about what taking place in Bangladesh. It was told and fed people that price hike was hawa bahaban invention. And people like you danced to that tune. Now we know it was propaganda at its best. This interim entity created smokescreen using corruption as a tool. Elimination of corruption was never an agenda. Yesterday there was a report published – poverty reduction in Bangladesh was fastest during last elected gvot. Now extent of corruption story seems to be invention. Sadly your focus is so narrow that you can not even think beyond what this interim entity spreads in the media everyday. And you are not alone…
August 28, 2007 at 10:43 am
Rupen
I first demand you to explain what did you mean by “you people”. ( I am ignoring Ahbab Aziz. Time and again we saw many Ahbabs and Korban Alis come and go.)
Next, I didn’t forget history, apparently looks like you forgot that. You mention BAKSAL but forgot about 1971. You mention 15th feb election but totally forgot about anti-autocrate movement and 1991 election or 2001 election. And looks like you are trying to make history by saying Khaleda zia was behind the 21st august grenade attack.
And then you are sermoning us with quotation from newspaper reports. There were many such implanted report in all the main media reporting on how mamun confessed of funnelling money, how tareq confessed this or that. And shamefully when it comes to prosecutions, we are not seeing any such confesion being presented to the court? May i ask, when they prosecute the alleged, why they can’t produce the confessions we read in the newspapers you love to quote. Now the reports you are quoting are being published in at least 7-8 newspapers and are strikingly similar, word to word.
And you still want me to believe that thi government does not want to cling to power? Then what ferdous Qureshi, Mannan bhuiyan gong are doing? Why they are being fed with milk and banana?
And all what you are analyzing those words, like dhaka university tecahers, students, conspiracy, india, evil forces; didn’t we hear the same words durimg 1971?
However, to be frank and fair, i don’t blame you for your stand and anger at me. This government is here to protect your class. They will ensure that the bourgeois is happy as they represent this class. But by doing that they ignore the mass, the marginalized class of the society. Thats why we see jute mills being closed, slums are being evicted without an alternative.
You talk about waste of resources by the movement of last week? if you count the total cost of the destruction by all those protests, it will not even be 1/1000 th of the total waste being incurred by destruction of Rangs Bhavan.
Come on and see the world beyond your class interest.
August 29, 2007 at 7:00 am
“u people” means those who are supporting atrocious activity.
using the term “class interest” you are just bypassing the main theme of the discussion.
i don’t have any anger or blame it’s just taking a stand what i believe
August 29, 2007 at 11:42 am
Political biasness, propaganda, stories and its effects on voting poll is understood, but when these gets mixed up with justice system and being implemented, bad things happen. Justice must be unbiased & non political.
August 29, 2007 at 2:03 pm
Rupen
First what is atrocity? Second, what makes me believe I support breaking a innocent owners car?
My point has along been against a double standard. What happened on 23rd august is exactly similar to events in Mirpur, Shanir Akhra, Kansat or Fulbari those took place last year. Or even you can’t qualitatively differentiate them from all those anti ershad jalao porao andolon or anti BNP jalao porao during the fag end of BNP government.
My question is what makes people qualify one as peples’ uprising and the other as atrocities perpetrated by evil forces at the expense of lakhs of Takas.
August 29, 2007 at 10:59 pm
Should we appreciate such actions against the corrupted people ???????

http://www.prothom-alo.com/mcat.news.details.php?nid=NTY5ODg=&mid=MQ==
Do you think these people (who are now being accused for what they have done so far ) can spend their (at least rest of their black money, that is impossible to make white now) money to torch the people taking action against them?
Should we keep on reading such reports-and stay quite and keep on allowing these types of people to rule us?

Is there a declaration from Bangladesh Justice system that what ‘Prothom-alo’ & ‘Daily Star’ writes will equate a ‘guilty perception’ on an individual? Should any individual whose name comes in paper as ‘guilty’ has right to defend the reported news, before he or she gets ‘bad’ name? And if those news papers found error in their report, must people be notify of their error-full practice. If these papers indeed found guilty of misinformation, what should be the justice for their harmful practice? If it is accepted to be OK for a news paper to damage on individual by news error, then what justice that damaged individual will get in a court system against those reporters? If no one is immune from justices long hand, why those reporters or news agency be protected for continuing their political agenda in disguise of ‘freedom of media’?
September 3, 2007 at 11:59 am
Mr. Rupen,
Agreeing with your comments on women being picked from streets by AL goons, formation of BAKSHAL by abolishing all parties and constitution of BD hadn’t been flawlessly written; I wanted to ask you if any of those occurings was unknown to our so-called saviors like India and the then Soviet Union? In ‘RAW and Bangladesh’, Zainal Abedin stated that he was treated like a terrorist by Indian trainers in Mukti camp but why did Indian trainer train him then? Wasn’t it because he would be a terrorist of India? Didn’t it echo Rosevelt’s comment on Nicaragua like Nicaragua was a SOB but he was Rosevelt party’s SOB? So, illegal practice can be over looked, down played as long as SOBs and terrorists belonged to the group of cunning saviors but when some of them got smart and started to rectify themselves all of their fourteen generation’s faults started to pop up in YOU PEOPLE’s writings, YOU PEOPLE’s Medias, YOU PEOPLE’s cervic process (Rationalization) etc. Lemme sum up your last two relays, hummm.. ‘Repackaging old wine in new bottle with lots of chanakyas’.
