“The glorious role that the armed forces played in the reconstitution of the caretaker government saved the country from a one-sided Jan 22 election, full of clashes and confrontations. We thank them for this. Now the nation expects arrests of those who plundered people’s wealth in corruption, and recovery of the lost wealth.”
Abdul Jalil, Awami League General Secretary, January 14, 2007
“Everyone suffers when democracy is under attack. We (political parties) may have different points of view. But everyone will have to be united when the issue is democracy.Whoever they are, they will be identified, they will be brought to justice and they will be handed the maximum punishment.”

Besides local political diemnsion there is also intention and involvement of india in events that were responsible for massacre of 53 Bangladesh army officers right after Awami regime took power and now this so called “coup”. 10-14 man coup against brigade size security of Sheikh Hasina and her govt is not just impossible but laughable. This so called “coup” label indicate only one thing – that is cover up pre planned and on going purging inside army.
And if we talk about pre plan one has to take stock to Sajeeb Wajed Joy pre election article “Stemming the Rise of Islamic Extremism in Bangladesh”. Then offcourse indian bagfull of money helped Awami League gain overwhelming majority. And now india according to its media ready to impose war on Bangladesh if Awami regime is overthrown. Did Awami regime came out to say these are Bangladesh internal issue and indian army being alarted to save Awami regime goes against Bangladesh soveraignty? Answer is No. So what is the difference between Awami League today and pre independence role of Jammat? One opposed Bangladesh independence then and Awami League destroying Bangladesh independence TODAY.

Indian army asked to remain alert
Kolkata based the Anandabazar Patrika said Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has decided to provide all sorts of assistance to Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, if any attempt is made to remove her from power in an undemocratic way.
This message has already been conveyed to the Bangladesh government, the report said.
The Bangla daily in its frontpage has published this by line story by Agni Roy from New Delhi on Saturday. Indian Intelligence has been asked to monitor the whole incident in Bangladesh so that its heat can not enter India.
Indian army bases near Bangladeshborder has been asked to remain alert. Regular contact with Bangladesh embassyin New Delhi is on.
The report said India thinks that main target of the recent failed military coup against Shiekh Hasina was actually New Delhi.

The difference is that we didn’t elect Jamaat to power with a nine-tenth majority. Such a strong majority that a common goon like Kamal Ahmed Majumdar won against a sector commander like Hamidullah Khan.
January 31, 2012 at 10:33 pm
In 1971, Jamaat sided with Pakistan because they considered themselves as Pakistani citizens being loyal to that country and upholding Pakistani national security interests. Today, BALers are holding BD citizenship loyal to India and upholding Indian national security interests.
…..That is the real difference. It is even worse today.

Now Bdesh has so much “connectivity” with India, that even “failed coups” are staged by Mother India.

Politics in Bangladesh – Turbulent house
…………………………
Ishraq Ahmed concedes that the arrested men are his friends, but denies religious extremism (indeed, he complains that the authorities have seized his painstakingly collected cellar of wines, Armagnacs and malt whiskies). He says the government “can show no troop movements, no guns, anything” to prove the plot.
Mr Ahmed is a former high-ranking officer from a liberal family. He says he fought “with great responsibility” for Bangladesh’s independence. Now he and other nationalists are merely trying to oppose what they see as a coup-by-stealth by Sheikh Hasina, who is letting Bangladesh be “turned into a Bantustan” run by India.
He makes many claims. Among the more plausible and specific is that spies from India’s Research Analysis Wing (RAW) operate in the country. He claims, too, that for two years RAW has had an office within the headquarters of Bangladeshi Intelligence in Dhaka and a “direct submarine cable for communications” back to India. He claims that Indians conduct electronic surveillance in the country and kidnap suspects from Bangladeshi cities. Indian prodding, he adds, encourages the government to crack down on “anyone with beards. Any practising Muslim is vilified and portrayed as Taliban.”

Awami League came to power with help of (among other things) bags of indian cash and advice.
Here is Economist article on Awami League, helped by bags of Indian cash and advice:

And now according to India Today, Indian govt had planned for military operation inside Bangladesh to rescue Awami League regime and its top leaders in case Awami League and India claimed coup were attempted.
Here is India Today article on Indian plan of military operation in Bangladesh:
—————————————–
In late December last year, a secret letter went from New Delhi to Dhaka. It was delivered directly to Sheikh Hasina, 65, the prime minister of Bangladesh. It warned her that Islamist radicals embedded within the Bangladesh Army were planning a coup. Hasina had reason to fear coups. On the night of August 15, 1975, her father, Bangladesh’s first president Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, her mother and three brothers were massacred by officers of the Bangladesh Army. Hasina and her sister would have been dead as well, but were abroad on a tour of Europe.
Along with the letter, India had worked out a contingency plan to evacuate the prime minister, her cabinet and key figures of her Awami League party in the event of a coup. There was a military plan as well. Indian helicopter gunships would be launched from two airbases in West Bengal and Tripura into Dhaka to provide air cover for the operation. Landing zones and evacuation sites were identified in and around the capital for the air corridor.

Awami League regime came to power with bags of Indian cash (among other things) and now banking on Indian military operation inside Bangladesh and helicopter rescue. That would be famous caption and cartoon for that matter – Coming with Indian cash and escaping by Indian helicopter.
And no worries for mid and low level Awami League leaders (except those already living and writing abroad) even though they were not mentioned in Indian plan, Indian border will be open for their shelter. Mid and low level Awami leaders will need to consult Indian high commission, Joynal Hazari and Shamim Osman for escape route!
