First, $1 Billion Loan out of annual 105 GDP, is not small for a LDC country. Its a hefty amount, equal to 70,000,crore taka !
Second, the conditions that India attaches to this loan ensures that all peripheral advantages to “connectivity” like job creation, economic growth, industrial incentives, etc created by this added infrastructural activity in Bangladesh, ALL actually happens in India, not in BD.
But Mr Muhith as an economist? should know better. Job creation, cement and material supply, engineering & tech – ALL could have been developed in BD, using BD own money, workforce and materials.
Why does this govt hype this Indian Loan, which is attached with Indian strings ? My guess is justifiably suspicious, is that there is huge corruption involved. With recent talks of “bags of Indian cash” – this is one way money flows to the wrong hands, and bad fiscal policy dominates.
BD (Bangladesh) entangles MORE in corruption, abuse of money, (Indian) black money whitening, Indian proliferation leading to decline in BD industries, decline in academic, technical and transport independence.
With India’s record of unkept conditions, agreements and promises – a natural correction to this loan will be NOT to use it, just cancel the loan proposal. Just thank India for their “generosity” and give em a good hand shake – thanks but no thanks.
We need to develop our own infrastructure with our own resources, workforce and industrial growth – in order to enhance it, and not remain inferiorly subjugant to other parties.
This is why blind policies to Indian advances, just because India is a so-called super power with 700 million starving poor, is a totally BAD idea.
What Transit ? Hasina says there is no transit.
Meanwhile Indians are taking Duty Free, Transit Free, Road Free, Truck Free, Trial Free rides across BD, and in 2 weeks have flooded the BD landscape with Indian junk.
